Black Soldier Fly Larvae - Vitaworms (BSFL)

Vitaworms are the larvae of Black Soldier Flies (Hermetia illucens). They are also sometimes called Calci-worms or BSFL.

Live Food Vitaworms are a high calcium food that naturally has a balanced calcium and phosphorous ratio. They are high in protein, particularly lysine, a vital amino acid and have 20 times more calcium than crickets. 

There is natural variation in the age & colour of the Vitaworms you will receive, ranging from creamy white to brownish black. They become more still as they darken and then hatch into Black Soldier Flies. They are edible at all stages of life. 

Vitaworms or Black Soldier Fly Larvae are suitable for chickens, ducks and other poultry, bearded dragons, blue tongue lizards, geckos, other reptiles, turtles, fish such as cichlids, barramundi and oscars, wild birds, spiders, scorpions, millipedes and centipedes. 

They are great for adding to your compost bin or heap to naturally assist with compost decomposition. They can be helpful to break down waste in deep litter chicken coops. 

Storage:- Black Soldier Fly Larvae

Keep at room temperature for several days. They will keep in the fridge alive (in a not too cold fridge - wine fridge or make up fridges are preferable) for a week or so and can be frozen for longer storage. Allow to come to room temperature before feeding to your animals. Wheat Bran is a suitable substrate to top up your BSFL.

500g & 200g are packed in a calico bag - feed out to your animals or transfer immediately to bulk insect housing after arrival. 100g comes in a plastic tub inside an esky. Sometimes they may escape into the esky. Take care when opening.
